Abstract

The phase diagram studies of the K2SO4-ZnSO4 system using DTA has been reported. The glass-forming compositions have been identified. The densities, refractive indices, microhardnesses and elastic properties of these glasses have been determined. The glass transition and crystallization behaviour of these glasses have been investigated. A model based on random close packing of SO42- ions has been proposed and the experimental observations such as molar volumes and glass formation trends are discussed in the light of the proposed model.
