Abstract

Sodium azide and thioglycollic acid weakly inhibited nitrogen fixation in different clones of Cylindrospermum majus in continuous cultures. The growth of different clons of C. majus was slightly stimulated by azide and inhibited by thioglycollic acid and nitrosoguanidine. No mutants or morphological variations could be observed in the algal clones after treatment with a sub-lethal dose ofnitrosoguanidine although growth and nitrogen fixation were inhibited or depressed.
