Abstract

Backward N production in the reaction has been investigated in the energy range 1.0 to 5.0 GeV as a direct experimental means for testing the dynamic role of N exchanges, found earlier to provide a unified description for the pd →dp and pp → dπ + processes over a wide range of energies. Our results indicate distinct peaks corresponding to the resonances P111470), P'11 (1750), D13(1520) and F15(1688), which had indeed been found to provide the major contributions among N exchanges in pd → dp and pp→ dπ+ These results provide quantitative support to the possibility for experimental detection of these peaks in a backward pd →d'N reaction, which is free from the high background of P33 like isobaric effects.
