Abstract

Study of fifteen HPC cores was carried out at 150 cm intervals from DSDP site 588 drilled on the Lord Howe Rise during Leg 90 in the southwest Pacific in order to quantitatively determine the first and last appearances, changes in relative abundance and faunal turnover in planktic foraminifera. Straligraphic section studied covers the interval from latest Miocene to Holoccnc About 25 planktic tbramiiiiferal events have been recognized in the late Neogene. These events were plotted on an age vs. depth curve for this site based on the paleomagnetic data from Barton and Bloemendal (1985) in order to estimate ages of the events.
