Abstract

The reaction of a disulfonic acid with nBu3SnOSnnBu3 generates the Sn-alkyl-cleaved dicationic species {[nBu2Sn(H2O)3(L)Sn(H2O)3nBu2]2+[L]2-}· 2MeOH·2H2O (4; L = 1,5-naphthalenedisulfonate, 1,5-C10H6-(SO3)2). The corresponding reaction with Ph3SnOSnPh3 leads to the unusual zigzag polymer {[Ph3Sn(L)Sn(H2O)Ph3]n}·THF (5), which contains an Sn-O motif in the backbone as well as a pendant group.
