Abstract

The reactions of the sterically hindered phosphinic acid 1,1,2,3,3-pentamethyltrimethylene phosphinic acid [cycP(O)(OH)] with n-Bu2SnO and (n-Bu3Sn)2O have been studied. Two novel organotin phosphinates, [{(n-Bu2Sn)2(OH)}{cycPO2}3]n (1) and [(n-Bu3Sn)(cycPO2)]4 (2), have been isolated in these reactions. Compound 1 is a spirocyclic coordination polymer containing alternate six- (Sn2PO3) and eight-membered (Sn2P2O4) rings. In contrast, compound 2 is a 16-membered macrocycle containing tin, oxygen, and phosphorus atoms. The macrocyclic nature of 2 is retained in chloroform solution up to 2 mM concentration.
