Abstract

A process for the manufacture of grain garment leather using jawasee proteaseis described. The quality of leathers produced by unbairing with jawasee protease and lime has been comparatively assessed. Chemical analysis, microscopical examination and determination of physical characteristics that have been carried out for all leathers have indicated that the three unbairing procedures give leathers of similar and comparable characteristics with very minor ifferences. The advantages of using enzyme unbairing process for solving the effluent disposal problem and for the survey of good quality hair/ wool have been dicussed.
