Abstract

'Easy care' finish for leather, obtained by suitable modification of castor oil and 2, 4-TDI based urethanes is reported. One combination using elastomer preparative technique was obtained by prepolymer-phenol reaction. But the phenol adduct developed residual tack on application to leather. Incomplete reaction of phenol with prepolymer was found to be the cause for residual tack and this was evidenced by I, R and NCO analysis. Combination involving reaction pf prepolymer and amines were tried, but these gave only gels and semi-gels. Reaction of equivalent amounts of caster oil and 2,4-[D] gave a product satisfactory enough but had the disadvantage of limited pot life. Modification of the above reaction by using n-butylamine and isopropanol gave a product of non-reactive nature having excellent pot life and coating characteristics.
