Abstract

The high thermodynamic barrier for ethane aromatization at lower temperatures (400-500° C) over a H-GaAlMFI zeolite can be overcome. Both ethane conversion and the yield of arenes drastically increase (4-80 x) by carring out the aromatization in the presence of olefins or higher alkanes. The enhanced reactivity results from a change in the reaction mechanism, and a hydrogen-transfer reaction takes place between ethane and higher olefins.
