Abstract

Influence of intercrystalline (macropore) mass transfer on the catalytic activity and product selectivity in o-xylene isomerization, isooctane cracking, and methanol-to-aromatics conversion reactions on Pt· H· ZSM· 5 · Al2O3 has been investigated by varying the catalyst particle size. Effect of poisoning of both the inter- and intracrystalline acid sites of the catalyst on its catalytic activity and selectivity has also been investigated. The effective intercrystalline diffusivity of the zeolite catalyst under reaction conditions has been determined by studying a first-order reaction cracking of isooctane (which does not penetrate the zeolite channels) using the catalyst of different particle sizes and determining the effectiveness factor of the catalyst. Both the activity and the selectivity of the catalyst in the above reactions are strongly influenced by the intercrystalline mass transfer.
