Abstract

The kinetics of oxidation of isopropyl alcohol, sorbitol, diglycollic acid and tetranydrofuran have been investigated in aqueous sulphuric acid (≤2 M). the total order of the reaction is found to be 2 for all the redox systems. The rate of oxidation increases with [ H+], [HSO4 -] and μ. The nature of the probable active species has been discussed and a plausible reaction scheme suggested. The various rate parameters have also been evaluated.
