Abstract

An analysis of the equivalent widths of the band system (A1 π-X1+) of the CO molecule has been made using the observed equivalent widths of Smith and Stecher for the star ζ Ophiuchi. From the present study, we have put a sort of limiting values for the various physical quantities of interest. It is also found that the population of the CO molecular lines are controlled by the radiation field of temperature ~ 3° K. We have also calculated the expected equivalent widths of the Lyman band of H2 and (A1 π-X1+) bands of SiO and CS for ζ Ophiuchi and find that these lines should be detectable.
