Abstract

This paper presents a technique for simultaneous block diagonalization of linear systems having the two time-scale property to facilitate the decomposition of energy functions into slow and fast components. Mass-spring systems are considered where the spring stiffness matrix K can be either symmetric or nonsymmetric. A linearized large scale power system has a similar structure and results are illustrated for this case.
