Abstract

The halodecarboxylation of α,β-unsaturated aromatic carboxylic acids to β-bromostyrenes is realised for the first time with heterogeneous molybdate-exchanged Mg-Al-LDH catalyst using 30% H2O2 in aqueous media at a faster rate in moderate to good yields at room temperature. The catalyst is well characterized by various instrumental techniques such as powder XRD, thermal analysis (TGA and DTA) and chemical analysis. The catalyst is used for five cycles without significant loss of activity.
