Abstract

An efficient method for allylic oxidation of cyclic and acyclic alkenes to the corresponding α,β-unsaturated carbonyl compounds in good yields was described using catalytic amounts of chromia-pillared montmorillonite and equimolar quantities of tert-butyl hydroperoxide. This is also a convenient method for selective oxidative deprotection of allyl ethers and amines using same system. Incidentally this is the first heterogeneous system for the allylic oxidation as well as oxidative deprotection.
