Abstract

An agent-based contractual workflow paradigm is described for E-business web-services. The various types of task patterns that arise in E-business (commerce, control and manufacturing, e.g. Purchasing, manufacturing and negotiation) require a "what if" programming approach consisting of intention and actions for trial-error design, before an actual commitment is made. Such an approach enables us to take care of the unpredictable nature of connectivity among the devices and the networks and also provide for the trial and error program design required. We also describe several types of agent-based task patterns that arise in E-business and how the contract-based workflow patterns becomes a useful vehicle for modeling and realising web-enabled services
