Abstract

By use of a transient calorimetric technique, the total hemispherical emissivities εH of pure nickel and iron have been measured at various temperatures in the range of 400 to 1100 K. Maxima are observed in the εH vs temperature curves of these elements at their respective Curie temperatures. These are explained on the basis of the classical theory of electromagnetic-wave propagation in conductors.
