Abstract

The optical absorption spectra of pubescent (hairy) and depubescised leaves of Blumea oxydonta DC and Gomphrena decumbens Jacq were taken using the relatively new technique of photo-acoustic spectroscopy. The pubescent leaf gave a higher photo-acoustic intensity than the depubescised leaf. The adaptive significance of pubescence to the leaf is discussed.
