Abstract

The present paper reports the results of a comparative study of the microstructures of rapidly solidified and conventionally cast and heat treated Ni based superalloys, Inconel 600 and Inconel 625. The changes occurring in the microstructures on ageing have been examined with reference to the precipitation of intermetallic and carbide phases. The role of excess vacancy concentration and high grain boundary area on the precipitation process has also been examined. It has been shown that RSP specimens have better mechanical properties.
