Abstract

Analysis of molecular crystals show that there are naturally occurring limiting values for the non-bonded contacts between various atoms. These symbolize the dominance of repulsive forces at distances smaller than these limiting values. We show that these limiting distances can be used to predict the onset of phase transitions in these crystals under high pressure.
