Abstract

A qualitative survey on the occurrence of Vibrio and related genera in the Vellar Estuary revealed the presence of V. alginolyticus, V. parahaemolyticus and V. natriegens, a new record in Indian waters. Luminous strains of Beneckea harveyi and strains belonging to the Pseudomonad group were also encountered. Occurrence of sucrose positive V. parahaemolyticus and other virbios showing intermediate biochemical responses between V. parahaemolyticus and V. alginolyticus have recorded and the results are discussed.
