Abstract

Sodium ethoxide in alcoholic solution has been foud to be an effective reagent for the rapid quantitative transformation at room temperature of o-aroyloxyacetoarones into the corresponding o- hydroxydiaroylmethanes, when can be rapidly cyclised at room temperature to the corresponding chromones. The synthesis of a number of naphtalene analogues of flavones is described.
