Abstract

The structure of the biological membrane has been discussed. The existence of two types of organisation of lipids namely regular organisation of lipids namely regular organisation and defective organisation has been postulated. The nature of the defect structures and their biological significance is discussed. The concept of hydrophobic channels has been introduced and their importance is discussed with special reference to the permability of potassium ion.
