Abstract

The rotatory power of a mixed crystal of composition 81.7% sodium chlorate and 8.3% sodium bromate by weight has been measured in the visible and ultraviolet region of the spectrum. The rotatory dispersion is anomalous in the ultraviolet as in the case of sodium chlorate but the rotatory power is appreciably less than that of the chlorate. The results indicate that the configurations of the two constituents are similar in the mixed crystal so that there is partial compensation of optical rotation.
