Abstract

The effects of the cavity damping on the phenomenon of collapse and revival in the population inversion of an atom in a two-photon process are investigated by using the dressed-atom approximation. Explicit results are given for a field initially in either a coherent or a two-photon coherent state. The cavity damping is expected to have more significant effects on two-photon transitions because the vacuum-field Rabi frequency for two-photon transitions is smaller than that for single-photon transitions.
