Abstract

The simultaneous absorption of ethylene and hydrogen chloride with chemical reaction in a medium of nitrobenzene containing dissolved catalyst (aluminium chloride) was studied. The experimental results indicated that the absorption occurs in the kinetic regime. The reaction was found to be first-order with respect to the reactants (ethylene and hydrogen chloride) as well as the catalyst. The rate constants calculated were 1.16×105, 2.80×105, 6.11×105 and 1.44×106 [cm3/g mole]2/sec at 30, 40, 50 and 60°C respectively and the activation energy 16600 cal/g mole.
