Abstract

It is pointed out that by imposing the requirement of non-negativity on the running Φ4 coupling λ(t) in the standard electroweak model, lower bounds on the masses of the Higgs boson and the top quark can be obtained. If mH≳ 25 GeV, the bound corresponds to mt ≳ 45 GeV. More useful bounds can be derived in a temperature-dependent theory.
