Abstract

Androgenicity of steroids has been measured in the immature castrated rats using two methods viz., increase in weight of ventral prostrate and increase in maltase activity of the dorsolateral prostate. Estradiol-17β as well as anabolic steroids affected the ventral prostrate weight, whereas these compounds had no significant effect on the maltase activity. Results show that maltase activity of dorsolateral prostrate is a more specific index of androgenicity of steroids as compared to the ventral prostrate assay.
