Abstract

The cross-section function for the single ionization of Xe by electron impact was measured from threshold to 150 eV using a crossed-beam apparatus. Prominent structure was observed which is difficult to explain in terms of excitation-autoionization. It appears likely that collective effects of electrons in the 4d orbital have a significant effect.
