Abstract

Increased production rates demand proper and precise identification of variables that induce inhomogenity in various batches of powder upsetting production economies. The varied experience accumulated over a decade and half in this area, is presented in the paper. Inter-related production parameters at different stages of process, viz., at precipitation, calcination and reduction are discussed in detail. Typical chemical composition of UO2 powders as well as effect of impurities on sinterability of the powders is brought out. The quality control aspects of powder and pellet production to ensure a better product with near zero reject levels, is also discussed.
