Abstract

Models of electron temperature in the ionospheric F-region are presented for low and medium solar activity conditions. The low solar activity models are based upon the incoherent-scatter radar measurements at Arecibo during 1965-1966. The medium solar activity models are based upon the incoherent-scatter radar measurements at St. Santin during 1967-1968. These models have been constructed from the empirical relations between electron concentration and electron temperature given by Mahajan (1967a) and Lejeune and Waldteufel (1970). Comparisons of electron temperature calculated from the models with those observed from incoherent-scatter radars and Langmuir probes show good agreement.
