Abstract

It is shown that linearized perturbation theory breaks down when applied to a complete polytrope which has vanishing density at the top for both optically-thin and optically-thick approximations. It is therefore necessary to exercise caution while admitting the eigenvalues determined for such a complete polytrope using the linearized theory.
