Abstract

Triticale (x Triticosecale Wittmack), a well known amphiploid, is the product hybridization between species of genera Triticum and Secale. Triticales, relatively have a unstable genomic condition, therefore, through induced mutagenesis, the genetic architecture of triticales can be tailored to develop new and better types. It is also true that high ploidy of triticales provide an opportunity to get large spectrum and high frequency of both micro and macro-mutations. To date very few reports are available on induced mutations in triticale breeding. In our study (Reddy1985) a large number of morphological mutants were obtained, in this communication mutants based on leaf characters were described.
