Abstract

Single-crystal EPR study of copper(II) doped into the ammonium salt of catena-di-μ-chromato-diammine zincate(II) has been carried out at room temperature and at 77 K. The spin Hamiltonian parameters correspond to a dz2 ground state consistent with the axial compression of the ammonia ligands around the central atom reported from X-ray data. A phase transition was detected at 278 K. The probable structure of the low-temperature species is discussed. Approximate bonding parameters have also been evaluated.
