Abstract

A method is proposed to handle the practical problem of errors introduced from the wings in the calculation of moments for an experimental absorption curve in wide-line NMR. The method consists in treating any given curve as a Voigt function and evaluating the second and fourth moments by deliberately truncating the function at half and quarter values corresponding to the peak. Evaluating of truncated moments and the ratios in a practical case and comparison with theoretical tables enables the Lorentzian and Gaussian components to be estimated precisely with minimum error.
