Abstract

The Zn coatability of hot-rolled steel sheets is dependent on the extent of the segregation of carbon and other alloying elements in the surface region. The mechanism of segregation has been established and it is found that the extent of segregation is dependent on the cooling rate after the hot rolling and on the annealing atmosphere. This segregation study will determine the proper process window for galvanizing this type of steel through a continuous galvanizing route.
