Abstract

The part played by SOFAR on microseism propagation from storms over deep sea has been considered. It has been shown that, due to variations in sound velocity, concentration of energy in the low-period range occurs and is greatest for STONELEY waves for the liquid-solid medium. Futher, the concentration is more in the upper part of the ocean, and it is proposed here that these STONELEY waves on striking the continental coast generate microseisms.
