Abstract

The problem mentioned in the title has been solved by a method developed earlier by the author. It has been shown that the natural period of flexural vibrations is increased due to elasticity of soil and for lower periods and sufficiently small radius to height, the stress is greatest at the foot of the tower and the bending moment and the shearing stress there, increase with the ratio and frequency, proving the observed fact that towers sometimes show resistance with respect to neighbouring structures. A formula for calculating the fundamental natural period has been given.
