Abstract

The response of structures to harmonic waves in the earth has attracted recent attention. Bose (1971) and Bose and Chatterjee (1972) have discussed the vibrations of a circular tower and a wall, neglecting the effect of the foundation. Luco (1969) has taken this aspect into consideration but has considered it to be rigid and hemi-cylindrical in shape and restricted to shear vibrations. In this paper the more common shape of a straight foundation but with negligible thickness has been considered. The method of solution is that adopted in Bose and Chatterjee (1972). Some general conclusions have been drawn.
