Abstract

Antimony oxide doped hexaferrites have been prepared in the composition range given by BaO·(6-x)Fe2O3·xSb2O3 with 0 ≤ x ≤0.2. For x = 0.1, Ba-W hexaferrite forms when the sample is prepared by hot pressing at a temperature of 1000°C for a few minutes. For a higher concentration of antimony oxide, the Ba-M phase is obtained. Also, the latter phase results when samples are processed by cold pressing followed by heat treatment at temperatures around 1200°C for a duration of 12 h. Magnetization measurements have been carried out on all samples prepared in the present series. A possible cationic distribution in the W-phase synthesized in this work is discussed.
