Abstract

Considerable interest exists currently in the development of computer codes for studying electromagnetic radiation and scattering problems, involving arbitrarily-shaped conducting bodies, on the basis of surface patch modeling. Particularly convenient for the modeling operations would be a use of planar triangular patches. However, the lack of availability of a suitable basis function defined on the triangular patches and of an appropriate method for treating the derivatives in the electric field integral equation (EFIE) have prevented an implementation of this approach. A description is presented of a new basis function, originally proposed by Glisson (1978), which is used in conjunction with the EFIE, the magnetic field integral equation (MFIE), and the EFIE in the time domain. Attention is given to EFIE formulation, MFIE formulation, a time-domain EFIE formulation, and a wire junction formulation.
