Abstract

The importance of blood group information in predicting breeding value of the quantitive traits in dairy animals has been studied in this investigation. From the accuracies of indirect selection obtained from the data on dairy cattle and buffaloes, it can be concluded that blood group information can be used with advantage for making preliminary selection only when the heritability of the trait is less than or equal to 0.1 and percentage genetic variation controlled by blood group loci is beyond 5 percent.
