Abstract

A new method for reconstruction of the shape of the left ventricle from the biplane angiocardiograms is proposed. The shape of the ventricle is reconstructed by estimating the 2-dimensional shapes at close horizontal levels and piecing them together into a 3-dimensional object. Without using predefined binary mask models, we propose a new method to reconstruct the cross section under the assumption that the cross section is regular and a monotonically nondecreasing or nonincreasing equidivisor (ED) curve is available. Instead of constructing the binary matrix directly, we need only to obtain the equidivisor curve, from which the cross section is uniquely determined. The experiments show better results than by any existing directing methods. It also eliminates the sensitive selection of mask models which dominate the results of model-based methods.
