Abstract
The I. R. spectrum of endocrocin is discussed in relation to the spectra of other hydroxyanthraquinone carboxylic acids. The structure assigned to endocrocin by Asahina and Fuzikawa has been confirmed by synthesis, adopting two methods starting from 2, 3-dimethylanthraquinone.
