Abstract

A diffracted beam in the forward direction has been directly observed in imperfect (diffraction curve half widths: ~ 100" -2- ~ 300") and thin (μ t sec θ : ~ 0.1 – ~ 0.3) type II natural diamond crystals. A five crystal X-ray diffractometer was employed in (+,-,+) setting. The intensity of the forward diffracted beam decreased with the degree of imperfection. However, diffraction curve half width of ~ 300° is nearly the limit for observation.
