Abstract

We discuss certain questions related to the phase of the quantum state of light by considering the double-slit interference experiment. In a quantum description of the situation one has to consider two phases, the mode phase and the quantum phase. By considering superpositions in different ways, it is shown that these two phases play rather distinct roles.
