Abstract

Iodine vapor was excited by an uncondensed transformer discharge in the presence of argon. A new band system λ 2785-2750A is recorded. In addition a large number of new bands are found in the band systems λ 3455-3015A, λ 2730-2520A, and λ 4420-4000A reported by earlier workers. These band systems are analyzed and explained in terms of the fairly well-established term scheme of the iodine molecule. The absorption data in the region λ 2000-3500A are discussed in the light of the present results.
