Abstract

In this paper, we report magnetic susceptibility and resistivity studies of hexagonal RAg3Al2 (R≡La, Ce and Pr) compounds from 1.4 to 300 K. None of the samples shows any magnetic or superconducting ordering down to 1.4 K. The d.c. susceptibility of CeAg3Al2 and PrAg3Al2 shows Curie-Weiss dependence, whereas that of LaAg3Al2 shows temperature-independent Pauli paramagnetic behaviour. The susceptibility and resistivity data of CeAg3A12 are compared with those of the heavy fermion antiferromagnet CePd2Al3 which has the same structure.
