Abstract

A variety of alcohols, thiols and phenols readily add to 3,4-dihydro 2H-pyran under mild conditions in the presence of catalytic amount of vanadyl(IV) acetate to afford the corresponding tetrahydropyranyl ethers in good to excellent yields at a faster rate for the first time in a novel heterogeneous medium. This methodology marks the first report of catalytic tetrahydropyranylation of thiols.
