Abstract

Visceral leishmaniasis (kala azar) is characterized by fever and splenomegaly in more than 80% of cases. We report a case of kala azar in an elderly person with severe anemia but no other typical features. This highlights the importance of being aware of rare presentations to avoid missing the diagnosis of this potentially fatal, but fully treatable, condition.
